Facelifts require a surgical procedure under general anaesthesia and result in weeks of downtime and scarring. Offering the perfect alternative for skin tightening and rejuvenation, A PDO thread lift is carried out under local anaesthetic in a sterile clinic situation and no hospitalisation is necessary.

The mini-thread lift procedure involves the insertion of tiny needles that contain threads into the skin. As the needle is removed, the thread remains in the skin where it serves as a scaffold or sling. Helping to counteract the effects of gravity, a network or “mesh” of threads support and tightens sagging or loose skin. The treatment is suitable for a wide range of areas including jowls, double chins, jawlines, necks, smokers’ lines and under-eye bags.

The mini-threads are made of polydioxanone (PDO), an extremely safe material used regularly in heart surgery. Polydioxanone does not produce allergic reactions or rejection and has no side effects. Although the threads naturally dissolve into carbon dioxide and water over six to eight months, the effect of the thread lift lasts for 12 to 24 months.

The Procedure

The tension created by the embedded threads combined with fluid retention produces a visibly-lifted effect immediately after treatment. However, more considerable improvement is apparent in six to eight weeks when the threads have stimulated the synthesis of collagen and fibroblasts and increased oxygenation of the skin. Wrinkles disappear, pores are minimised and sagging tissues are tightened as the skin takes on a smoother and more radiant appearance.

A strong topical anaesthetic cream is applied one hour prior to thread lift treatment, which helps minimise pain. The sensation is described as a slight stinging, similar to an acupuncture treatment.

The thread lift procedure takes 40 to 60 minutes (depending on the area being treated), and approximately 50 to 70 threads are used to treat the whole face. The patient can drive and resume daily activities immediately after treatment. Some bruising is likely and a downtime of three to seven days is probable, depending on individual responses. Make-up can be applied after treatment.

Prices include a review and top-up appointment 6 to 8 weeks after initial treatment.
